ADDITIONAL INFORMATION FROM THE SPEAKER
New construction requires providing a system for catching rainwater on site, but these apparently are not working well in heavy storms. The standards for what is required appear to be based on rainfall amounts that are underestimated in the face of climate change. Does the County have any plans to reevaluate these for efficacy?
- Most likely through the Comprehensive Flood Management Plan. The Plan’s policy and programmatic efforts will examine the Countyโs laws, regulations, development and design standards, programs, budgets, etc. that address (or perhaps contribute to) various aspects of flooding and develop recommendations for changing them.
- Just completed phase 1, working on Phase 2. Phase 2: Conduct engineering assessments in the priority watersheds identified in Phase 1, and develop, and begin to implement, program and policy recommendations to address flooding. Phase 2 time frame: FY24-FY26 More information on website: Comprehensive Flood Management Plan – Montgomery County, MD (montgomerycountymd.gov)

FALL 2023 MEETING
On Monday evening, November 6, 2023, PRA had an excellent meeting on clean energy options for homes. The presentation was highly informative. The supplementary contributions by two residents who have clean energy systems or sources were valuable additions to the discussion. And the questions from participants were well thought out.
The Zoom link to the recording is below. Please note that you may be prompted to enter the passcode as well. [Tip: It is usually easier to cut and paste the passcode rather than typing it in.]
